The Challenge: The Lehigh University Police Department wanted to raise funds for its recently established Therapy Dog Program, aimed at providing comfort and support to the campus community. The program features two Labrador Retrievers, Grace and Scout, who play an important role in offering emotional support during various campus events like move-in, family weekend, and commencement, and individual sessions. To support this initiative, the university needed a unique and engaging way to generate funds while raising awareness about the program.
The Solution: In February, Lehigh University collaborated with Campus Stop to design and produce custom hats featuring the university’s beloved therapy dogs, Grace and Scout, known as the “Lehigh Labs.” The hats were displayed for sale at the student bookstore, with all proceeds directly benefiting the Therapy Dog Program. This initiative provided a stylish and functional accessory for students and staff, as well as served as a meaningful way to support the university’s mission of fostering well-being on campus.
“The sales of Lehigh Labs branded hats have raised awareness for our Therapy Dog program,” says Ashley Strause, business manager. “We’re also selling the hats via an online store to Lehigh students, faculty, staff, and program supporters.”
Bonus Round: The initial order of 50 hats quickly became a hit, with the Lehigh Labs Collection selling out almost immediately. Recognizing the popularity and impact of the fundraiser, Lehigh University returned to Campus Stop in March to place an order for 100 additional hats. “The hats have sold out at the bookstore three times already!” Strause said. “Our aim is to diversify our merchandise line.”
The Result: The success of the custom hats highlighted the college community’s enthusiasm for the Therapy Dog Program, demonstrating a strong connection between the university’s efforts and its stakeholders. The cute hats not only raised funds but also increased awareness and engagement, as students and staff proudly wear their Lehigh Labs gear. “A hype video was created for our social media that has been viewed more than 3,600 times!” Strause said.
The Therapy Dog Program continues to thrive, with Grace and Scout playing an integral role in providing comfort and support to those in need. Lehigh University’s collaboration with Campus Stop has been a great success, helping to keep the Therapy Dog Program going strong with Grace and Scout at key campus events and activities.
